The supply fan motor in this packaged rooftop unit failed due to bearing fluting. The service team sourced a replacement motor along with a shaft grounding device and performed the replacement. The root cause of the failure was bearing fluting. This is prevalent when motors are run with VFD’s (Variable Frequency Drives). The shaft grounding device we installed will discharge the shaft power to the ground to avoid future bearing wear.
